Collaboration w/ Hudson’s Hill- Dyed Vintage Pants

Excited to show you what I’ve been working on with local textile house and store front, Hudson’s Hill, in Greensboro, NC.

When I heard from Evan, that they had a bunch of deadstock (vintage, but never been worn) painters pants and vintage sailor pants, I was thrilled to join in on the collaboration! One of the things I love about upcycling and hand dyeing, is it’s power to revive an older item and to be given another life. Vintage sailor pants with rust and ink stains, but in great condition due to the quality of the fabric and construction? Perfect for ice dyeing and breath fresh life into them. Then combine them with the expertise of the folks at Hudson Hill, mending and photographing the collection… Love how these came out! Thanks for having me on this collaboration and looking forward to more projects together!

TIE DYE LOVE: From the Hudson’s Hill Instagram and website copy:

1960’s Stonecutter Carpenter Jeans—
Using new old stock, never worn pairs of jeans sourced by @gregredelico, we collaborated with River Takada of @rivtak to apply a special tie-dye technique to these 100% cotton garments, resulting in one-of-a-kind (no two are even close to alike!) pants that merge the concepts of clothing and art. Color fasted in the dyeing process, these will remain vibrant for years, and we’ve taken the time to quality control each pair to insure they meet our store’s durability standards. Mid-rise waistline allows these to fit in a unisex manner, although if you have major curves, these may not be the pair for you. Sizes 25-29. Inseam standard at 30”.

1940’s Sailor Pants—
Using gently worn US navy pants from World War II sourced by @gregredelico , we collaborated again with River Takada of @rivtak to apply a special tie-dye technique to these 100% cotton trousers, More commonly known as sailor whites. We then cut down the matching tops to re-purpose fabric, adding a single asymmetrical hip pocket to resemble those found on pre-World War II naval dungarees, removed the thumb pockets at waistline to permit a more flattering fit, added five belt loops using a modified Union Special 52800 two-needle coverstitch, and reinforced seams and weak points for improved durability to meet our store’s quality standards. Is there truly a statement piece, one-of-a-kind (no two are remotely close to alike!) trousers that merge the concepts of clothing and art. High-rise waist provides and ideal fit for a feminine physique, with a hip flare that allows for a curvy figure to fit in these well. Some pairs have a bell flare and others have a wide straight leg, but we cannot guarantee one or the other with purchase due to the limited nature of this release. Sizes 27-30. Inseam averages 29”.

We’ve got a lovely rainbow dyed collection for you with much more to come!
