Sashiko, Japanese embroidery, includes a variety of techniques formed with running stitches. In this class, River Takada will cover Sashiko techniques and demonstrate the “Hitomezashi” or “one-stitch pattern” style. Sashiko and Hitomezashi embroidery are both rooted in mending, from clothing to household objects. Once added to your toolbox of stitching skills, these techniques can add beauty to sewing projects of all kind. In this sewing workshop, we will start with Sashiko hand stitching for the first half, and the second half we will make a small zakka item with your stitched sampler, mixed vintage Japanese textiles and linen scraps. We will mix hand stitched elements with patchwork and utilitarian stitching to make a special everyday object handmade to bring joy, coziness, and personal expression to daily life. More details:

It refers to a design and lifestyle phenomenon celebrating mundane, everyday objects—such as stationery, kitchenware, and textiles—that are thoughtfully designed, carefully selected, or handmade to bring joy, coziness, and personal expression to daily life. $22 supply fee for Sashiko kit due to instructor at the beginning of class.
