October 12-13, 2019 Indigo Dye Workshop

from 5.00

Join me, River Takada-Capel, in Durham, 600 Foster Street.

on Saturday and/or Sunday, October 12-13, 2019 for a informative indigo dye lesson and workshop.

Times:
Saturday, October 12. Lesson 1pm-4pm, Open Studio and Drop-in from 2:30-4pm
Sunday, October 13, Lesson 1pm-4pm, Open Studio and Drop-in from 2:30-4pm

$65- Get your own bucket and take it home! Dyes around 15 yards or 10 tee shirts. (come both days or only one day)
$25- Dye up to 7 items (Pick 1 Day)
$5/dip- Perfect if you just want to make a sample or dip a few things (Pick 1 Day)

How this workshop works:

Students are welcome to bring any *natural* fiber items (ie cotton, linen, rayon, etc.) (polyester will *not* dye in the indigo bath). Fabric will also be available for an additional fee. Each student will learn how to prepare their indigo bath, and we will share one bucket in the class. Save your spot at different levels for you needs in this workshop.
If you signed up for the $65 or $25 option: come to the workshop with your items at 1pm on the day you signed up for. We will make a dye bath and start prepping your fabric and dye items in a structured workshop until 4pm. After that, you are welcome to stay and keep dyeing, or you can head out!

If you sign up for the $5 per-dip/Drop-in Option, come anytime between 2:30-4pm to get a quick tutorial on how to fold and clamp your items and dip in the group bucket. Recommended: do your own research (books or internet), feel free to stitch and resist your own items if you know how and just dip your items in the bucket. If you’ve never dyed anything - we’ll have some simple designs you can choose from.

Long Lesson includes a brief history, how the cold water pre-reduced indigo works, and different folding and clamping techniques to get the designs you desire! We will mark and fold all of our materials and prepare them for dyeing.

Workshop includes prepping pre-tied fabric for dyeing and the process of letting indigo oxidize. Please wear clothing that you don't mind getting splattered with blue.
